Our national cuisine is a blend of Turkish, Greek and other Mediterranean cuisines with an influence of European cuisines as well. Meat is almost an inevitable ingredient of a traditional meal served with delicious home-grown organic vegetables, variety of salads and plates (cheese selection, smoked meat or smoked spicy sausage called "sujuk”).
The most popular gastronomic delicacy is cevap. Cevap is a grilled dish of minced meat served in a flatbread "somun”. This delicious dish, along with other grilled meat specialties can be found in a national restaurant called "cevabdzinica”, mostly in Bravadziluk Street. Bravadziluk was a street of locksmith shops. Nowadays, it is a delicious-cuisine street with numerous tiny traditional restaurants, which in addition to cevap also serve pies (buregdzinica) and saucy meat and vegetables (ascinica). It is a must-visit attraction in Sarajevo. They are very unique to Europe. Those tiny private kitchens and barbecue cateries are eat-and-go places. The custom dates back to the Ottoman period, when craftsmen and merchants would come by for a quick meal and go back to work.

Some of the Old Town cafés still serve rose juice or smreka (refreshing sour beverage made of juniper berries; usually served during the summer season with ice). Some pastry shops serve boza, a popular fresh beverage made of corn flour and sugar. During winter you can try some salep, served hot (it has some healing features as well, especially for your throat). The local brewery at Bistrik produces excellent beers, including a rare dark beer.

In addition to numerous traditional restaurants, we have a great variety of international restaurants serving Italian, Mediterranean, Mexican, Halal, Chinese, Japanese and many other cuisines serving combination of various international specialties.

A number of restaurants serve vegetarian, fast food, pizzas or fine selection of wine&cheese.
